As the lead designer on a cross-functional team, I contributed to launching an innovative AI product for Getty Images and iStock. This product enables users to generate images through AI and customize licensed images from our library, providing a legally compliant, risk-free way to create visuals. My role focused on customer acquisition, including optimizing the purchasing funnel, merchandising strategies, and entry points into the tool. The project spanned a year and involved collaboration with product managers, designers, data scientists, developers, and legal teams.
Unlimited AI
Problem
AI image generation presents both an opportunity and a potential challenge for traditional stock imagery. Our goal was to create a compelling offering that balanced user demand for AI-generated content with the company's need to protect intellectual property. Initial user feedback revealed hesitation in engaging with the tool due to the constraints of a credit-based pricing model. Users were cautious about burning through credits, which hindered the experimentation necessary for achieving desired results.
Solution
To address this, my team and I spearheaded a strategic pivot from a credit-based pricing model to an unlimited-use subscription model. This approach, validated through user studies and rooted in psychological principles, aimed to remove barriers to usage. By eliminating the perceived cost of each generation attempt, users could freely experiment without the fear of depleting credits.
- Strategic Contributions: I led design decisions across critical customer touchpoints, including the purchasing funnel and merchandising, ensuring a seamless experience that aligned with the new subscription model.
- User-Centered Testing: Collaborated on a user study to test the subscription model, incorporating insights into the final design. I also advocated for pricing experiments to find an optimal balance between user engagement and revenue goals.
